The body with responsibility for areas, which could be inundated by the sea or river, is the Environment Agency. (www.environment-agency.gov.uk Flood Line 0845 988 1188 )

Great Yarmouth Borough Council has a supporting role to the agency in providing a response to the public in the time of an emergency. The Council will also help with advise and guidance on precautionary measures that the public can take if they are within the EA indicative flood plane.

This service is provided on behalf of Great Yarmouth Borough Council by GYB Services Ltd.

Notes:

If there is a flood alert, sand bags will be available from the GYBS Ltd depot at Churchill Road, Great Yarmouth or other nominated places throughout the Borough.

The Council provides free sandbags if there is a formal flood warning issued by the Environment Agency. At other times they can be bought from the Council at GYB Services depot.
