This comprises a partnership of all Norfolk's local authorities which was formed in 2000 to deliver the Sport England programme Active Sports. This is a national programme delivered in all counties.

Active Sports is made up of two elements, Sports Activity and Partnership Services. Both have the ultimate aim of encouraging more participants in sport whether it be young people participating or adults becoming coaches.

The four sports identified by Norfolk to deliver Active Sports activity are athletics, cricket, girls football and tennis. The Norfolk Sports Alliance regularly run courses in each of these sports, some of which are held locally in the Borough.

The Partnership Services element works towards the development of coaches and clubs. Areas covered include a comprehensive coach and club programme, courses/workshops on child protection, first aid and working with disabled sports people. Coach bursaries are available to support coaches working towards a sports coaching qualification . Clubmark or similar accreditation is another programme coordinated to recognise sports clubs and 'accredit' them as being 'safe, effective and child friendly'.

The Alliance is working closely with coaches to enter them on to a national database which will enhance opportunities for paid work and assist with planning relevant courses.
