Recipients of Housing and Council Tax Benefits have seen the time taken to process their claims dramatically reduced. Over the past twelve months the average time taken to assess new claims has fallen from 100 days to 30 days whilst claims requiring an amendment are now being actioned in just 17 days compared to 56 days at this time last year.
The improvements and the hard work by the Council and its staff were recognised by the Housing Benefit Minister, James Plaskitt M.P who wrote saying “I was pleased to learn that new claim processing performance has improved substantially in the third and fourth quarters of 2006/7, and that improvement has been sustained into 2007/8.”
Barry Coleman, Leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council said “It is pleasing to see the tremendous efforts by all those involved have provided such outstanding results. It has been a real team effort with everyone working really hard to produce these excellent results for our customers.”
