Great Yarmouth Borough Council backs retention of local Post Offices
On Wednesday evening Cabinet Members together with the Leader of the Opposition and the Chair of the Scrutiny Committee met with representatives of Post Office Ltd. The Council had wanted a public meeting but could not get Post Office Ltd to agree to this. Barry Coleman, Leader of the Council said “ We would have preferred an open meeting where all stakeholders could express their views but as this was not possible we agreed to this meeting to discuss the Post Office Limited Network Change Plan and to enable Council Members to agree a formal response to the proposals”.

Hopton Restaurant Fined £9,000 for Filthy Restaurant
A guilty plea by Ian Watkins of Cottage Loaf Bakery & Restaurant, Station Road, Hopton, saw Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court impose a fine of £9,000 with £948 costs in relation to conditions at his premises described as filthy and unhygienic.

Bank Holiday Domestic Refuse and Recycling Collections
Just to remind everyone that due to the bank holiday weekend, all refuse and recycling collections for the week commencing Monday 26 May will be one day later than normal with Friday's collections being done on Saturday.

Flytippers Prosecuted by the Council
The Council’s policy of ‘Catch and Convict’ in respect of those residents who continue to illegally dump waste has scored another success.

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Area Liaison Committees
The public are invited to raise issues and questions with Cabinet members and Ward Councillors at new twice yearly Great Yarmouth Area Liaison and Gorleston Area Liaison Committees.

HRH The Princess Royal is to visit Great Yarmouth in June to help celebrate the Borough’s 800th Charter anniversary.
