The Building Regulations require a number of inspections at certain stages as works progress, dependant on the work being carried out. At these stages it is necessary to give notification and the required statutory notices are:

At the commencement of work - notice given 2 days prior to the inspection.

After excavation of foundations and before concreting – notice given 1 day prior to the inspection.

After foundations are concreted – notice given 1 day prior to the inspection.

After preparation of the oversite and before concreting – notice given 1 day prior to the inspection.

At damp-proof course (DPC) – notice given 1 day prior to the inspection.

After drainage is laid and before covering – notice to be given 1 day prior to the inspection.

After haunching and covering of drainage – notice given within 5 days.

At the occupation of part or all of the building – notice given 5 days prior to occupation.

At completion of the work – notice given within 5 days of completion.

It is possible the inspecting surveyor may need to carry out additional inspections to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations.
An inspecting surveyor will wherever possible at make further visits to a site when asked to do so by the contractor or owner.

in writing or to the inspecting officer on site.

If notification is received before 10.30am, an inspection will, in most cases be carried out the same day.
