Trains - Information and Advice
In 1999 The Wherry Lines was launched initially as a promotion group which then became a Community Rail Partnership.
The Partnership aims to make the most of the linkages between land use planning and Rail and Bus transport services and infrastructure, thus trying to ensure that when new facilities are planned, transport is not forgotten.
It was identified that by promoting the sustainable railway as a means of getting to places also had the potential to remove private vehicles from very busy roads thereby improving the quality of life and habitat. At the start of the Partnership, downtrodden stations along the route could not be described as user friendly. The Partnership has instigated floral displays, improved waiting and information facilities, better seating and lighting and car parking at stations. Pressure on the train operator has resulted in additional trains and amended train times and a better stopping pattern. It has resulted in a nominal increase in patronage which continues to grow. The Partnership are now concentrating on all areas where they can deliver sustainable environmental benefits.
The Wherry Lines have 13 stations along the route and through our Action Plan provide tubs and Plants at as many stations as possible.
Offering integrated ticketing and easy access to scenic areas of the East Norfolk coast and the Broads, the Wherry Lines promotes through tickets and connecting buses to ease traffic congestion on local roads and protects the environment by encouraging a modal shift from private vehicles.
Through the Action Plan, The Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership will seek to deliver:
·Additional Train Services
·Improved Infrastructure
·More Destinations
·Longer Trains
·Greener Promotions
·Improved Integration
