Property Services

The purpose of the Service is to effectively manage the Council’s non-operational investment portfolio including off street car parks, on street parking and residential permit areas. This generates income for the Council to assist it in the provision of services. Property Services also gives comprehensive valuation and property advice to the Council and its Departments in connection with its various functions.

Our main activities are:-

Property management comprising the management of approximately 1440 letting units of property owned by the Council, but occupied and used by third party organisations, companies and individuals. These properties cover a wide range of types and uses including :-
  • commercial and industrial land and premises
  • quayside land and premises
  • residential premises
  • retail premises
  • offices
  • seafront concessions
  • easements and wayleaves
  • advertising sites
  • car parking areas and garages
  • grazing land

The Service also operates the Market to provide a vibrant and lively environment for shoppers, enabling a wide range of goods to be offered for sale; and providing an outlet for the sale of local produce.

We manage the Council’s Off Street Car Park portfolio and Norfolk County Councils on street parking to provide convenient, safe and reasonably priced parking facilities suitable for the needs of a variety of different users, including the management of the coach drop off and collection point for visitors at the Beach Coach Station and coach and lorry parking.

Suitable premises for the businesses and employers of the town are an essential ingredient to achieving a prosperous and dynamic economy. Great Yarmouth was granted a Charter in 1208 by King John incorporating it as a Free Borough, whereby large amounts of land outside the town walls were vested in the Burgesses, the forerunners of the Council. The Council therefore has an extremely large and diverse property portfolio for a District Council and can use it in a way that influences and impacts upon the economy. The provision is being further enhanced with the availability of premises in a high quality landscaped environment on the Council’s Beacon Park at Gorleston. (www.beaconpark.co.uk)
