Introduction
Housing fraud is a crime.
What is housing fraud?
Some of the most common forms of housing fraud are:
- Obtaining housing by deception - when someone gets allocated housing by the Council by withholding or giving false information in the application
- Illegal subletting - when a tenant lets out their Council or housing association home without the permission of their landlord
- Wrongly claimed succession
- You fail to use the property as your main home
Are there any signs of housing fraud?
If you notice any of the following you should let us know:
- Tenants of a property changing frequently
- Someone collecting rent
- Tenants who appear to have another home
What should I do if I suspect someone of housing fraud?
If you suspect someone of housing fraud you should contact us and give us as many details as you can. Anything you report is anonymous and held in strict confidence. You can:
