Resident engagement

Introduction

Welcome to resident engagement. It is important to us to make sure that all tenants and residents have an opportunity to have their say in what we do.

We want residents to be involved in how their homes and communities are managed, maintained and improved. We want all residents to feel well informed and be able to challenge us when they feel we can improve our services.

We are refreshing our approach to how we engage with tenants, residents and leaseholders. To find out more about what we aim to do over the next few months, please read on!

We are looking for residents to be involved in developing our approach to engagement. You don't need any experience, just enthusiasm to make sure every voice can be heard and be willing to work with us to achieve this.

Have an interest in connecting with people online? We would like to develop opportunities to be involved online, collaborating with us and others to improve services.

If you can help, please email residentengagement@great-yarmouth.gov.uk on how we can further develop our engagement with residents.

How can I get involved?

Getting involved is a great way to express your views and work with us to improve our services to you. There are different ways you can do this to fit in with your lifestyle. You can learn new skills and be part of your community or take part from home and online.

There are different ways you can make a difference:

  • Your Area: being involved locally - influence what we do by becoming an Area Voice, take part in estate monitoring or attend one-off local discussion groups
  • Your Voice: complete surveys, share ideas and suggestions and be involved in reviewing and improving our communications
  • Your Services: face-to-face (borough-wide) - be part of our decision making through Task and Finish groups (work with us to take an in-depth look at a specific area and make recommendations for improvement), specialist interest groups (sign up to be involved in one-off meetings or projects addressing the things that matter most to you), and performance challenge (hold us accountable for how we are delivering services)

To register your interest in being involved, please either:

We will then get in touch with you.

Four Million Homes

A new programme has been set up with funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to provide free information, guidance, and training on residents' rights and will run until March 2025.

It helps tenants with understanding their rights and working with landlords to ensure that homes and neighbourhoods are kept well-maintained, clean, and safe.

Please visit the Four Million Homes website to:

  • get advice and guidance on different issues
  • book onto a free training event or topic-based webinar. All training sessions are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing
  • watch past webinars
  • sign up to their newsletter to receive updates of all upcoming activities

I have an idea about how we can improve what we do

We are always looking at how we can make our services great. We welcome any suggestion no matter how small or insignificant it may be - to share your suggestion or idea please email residentengagement@great-yarmouth.gov.uk. Please let us know if you would be happy to chat further about your idea.

All ideas will be looked at and, going forward, also discussed by a group of residents.
