Corporate enforcement policy

This policy commits the Council to good enforcement policies and procedures. Fair and effective enforcement is essential. This policy sets out what businesses and individuals being regulated by the Council can expect from the Council's enforcement officers.

The Council will ensure that it complies with the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Act 2006 in having regard to the following principles ('the principles of good regulation') when exercising regulatory functions:

  • regulatory activities should be carried out in a way which is transparent, accountable, proportionate and consistent
  • regulatory activities should be targeted only at cases in which action is needed
