Information on how the Community Hub and partners can support you in challenging circumstances, including welfare and financial support.

Norfolk Client Hardship Service

Norfolk County Council's Client Hardship Service offer support to residents to get back on track with information and guidance on a wide range of issues including money management and budgeting. They can also support you financially with essential household items.

You could be eligible if you fall into any of these groups:

  • Be 16 years old or over
  • Live in Norfolk
  • Be claiming a means tested benefit e.g. Universal Credit, Employment Support Allowance, Pension Credit, Tax Credits

Household Support Fund

Great Yarmouth Borough Council has not yet received an allocation for the next round of Household Support Fund. If there is an allocation to the Council it will not cover crisis support. Residents are still able to apply for the Client Hardship Service. 

To receive contact from a Community Hub Case Worker for support and advice, you can ask your existing support workers to make a referral. If you are not currently working with other services, you can call 0808 196 2238 or email earlyhelphub@great-yarmouth.gov.uk.

Tricky Period and Toiletries To Go

All Norfolk libraries offer free bags of sanitary products for you to pick up with no questions asked. If you are struggling to afford these necessities, please help yourself to a bag which will include 2 packs of sanitary products. Norfolk Libraries are also providing sustainable period products, which can be picked up where stocks allow.

Great Yarmouth Library also offers 'grab and go' bags of toiletries, with toothbrushes for adults and children available on request.

Community drop-in (MESH)

MESH is the Great Yarmouth Community Hub's public-facing community drop-in based in Shrublands Youth and Adult Centre, Gorleston.

Why not pop along to MESH where we can talk about what matters to you and work together on your next steps.

At MESH we can offer advice and guidance on all parts of your everyday life, including accessing health and social care, financial support, community activities and much more.

Location: Magdalen Way, Gorleston-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, NR31 7BP.

Opening times:

Monday: 9am - 5pm

Tuesday: 9am - 4.30pm

Wednesday: 9am - 4.30pm

Thursday: 9am - 4.30pm

Friday: 9am - 4pm

Saturday and Sunday: Closed.

Hoarding and decluttering scheme

The Great Yarmouth Community Hub offers support to residents who have homes in need of decluttering. Decluttering can be necessary due to hoarding, or its impact on residents' health, safety and mental wellbeing.

Support we can offer includes:

  • organising skips to help you declutter
  • offering support through the process

All hoarding and decluttering cases are only brought to us through our professional partners, including your GP surgery and Adult Social Care. If you are worried about the impact of hoarding and decluttering on your life, speak to a medical professional.

Housing Adaptations

Housing Adaptations support people in Great Yarmouth with a disability, long-term illness, visual impairment or mobility problems to live safely and independently at home. 

Please use this form if you believe you would benefit from an adaptation to your home. You will be eligible for a triage call if you live in Great Yarmouth, regardless of whether you own your own home or not.

  • if you own your home or are a private tenant, you may be eligible to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant
  • if you are an eligible council tenant, the Council will fund these works
