People invited to attend VE Day wreath-laying ceremony in Great Yarmouth

VE Day - Victory in Europe Day - is marked every year to celebrate the end of the Second World War in Europe in May 1945 when Germany surrendered after six years of terrible conflict in which millions of people lost their lives and millions more were displaced or lost loved ones.

During the ceremony, which will take place at the Second World War Memorial in St George's Park in the town, there will be a two-minute silence followed by a wreath laying.

The service provides an annual opportunity for people to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the conflict and look to the Second World War generation and learn from their resilience, determination and hope for better days to come.

The Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Councillor Penny Carpenter, will lay a wreath behalf of the borough and members of the Royal British Legion will also lay a wreath.

Members of the public are also welcome to lay a wreath. The ceremony starts at 11am and people are asked to arrive at 10:55am.
