Beacon Park plays host to successful manufacturing and engineering business event

Beacon Park in Gorleston recently played host to representatives from a wide range of businesses as part of a regular series of events for the manufacturing and engineering sector.

Guests at the ECMG event at Proserv at Beacon Park

Proserv hosted the latest East Coast Manufacturing Group (ECMG) session and also provided guests with a tour of its factory, which designs and makes subsea control and cable monitoring systems for the energy sector worldwide.

Delegates also enjoyed a presentation from Jason Mashinchi, founder of Cambridge Kinetics. Mr Mashinchi explained the key role of AI in rapidly improving productivity and quality in manufacturing. He said businesses in Great Yarmouth are well placed to take advantage of the technology, which can transform operations by identifying better and cheaper ways of working.

ECMG is a consortium of like-minded organisations committed to best practice, business collaboration and economic development. It is open to all manufacturing and engineering firms in Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Waveney and beyond.

It is free to join for businesses and is supported by Great Yarmouth Borough Council to help companies improve their competitiveness and work collaboratively. It also provides access to free specialised support and grants.

Councillor Daniel Candon, Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Economic Development and Growth, said: ''As England's offshore capital, Great Yarmouth has a vibrant future, capitalising on clean energy and other investment in the borough.

''ECMG offers companies a great opportunity to collaborate and help drive economic growth. This successful event, kindly hosted by Proserv, is a demonstration of the benefits of how businesses can learn together.''

ECMG falls under the umbrella of the New Anglia Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering group - the recognised sector group for manufacturing and engineering businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk. Tom Beales, director of Armultra in Great Yarmouth, has recently been appointed chairman of ECMG - which is also supported by East Suffolk Council - for the next year.

The manufacturing and engineering industry across Norfolk and Suffolk is the third largest by employment in the region, with about 84,500 people employed in 5,900 businesses - with an additional 145,000 non-engineering jobs supported by the sector. Regionally, manufacturing and engineering has grown by 8.5 per cent since 2010 and contributes about £5.1bn in gross value added (GVA) to the economy every year.
