Is one of your New Year's Resolutions to reduce the amount of food you waste at home or to save money on your weekly shop?

Great Yarmouth Borough Council, the Shrublands Community Trust and MESH, the borough council's neighbourhood management programme for Gorleston, has teamed up with Sainsbury's Waste less save more to invite up to 16 households in the Shrublands and Magdalen area of Gorleston to a Zero Waste Kitchen Challenge, filled with top tips on how to make your food go further.

Zero Waste Kitchen Challenge

The four-week challenge being organised by Recycle for Norfolk in partnership Sainsbury's and Norfolk's Plan Eat Save includes a cookery workshop, a free pack of goodies to help you avoid wasting food at home, simple to use food waste measurement forms to complete and return online, regular updates and advice on how to reduce your food waste - delivered straight to your inbox, and £20 worth of Sainsbury's vouchers as a thank you for completing the programme.

It can also save families up to £60 a month. Food waste is a big issue in the UK - with the average family throwing away £700 worth of food every year.

Cllr Carl Smith, Chairman of Great Yarmouth's Environment Committee, said: "Most food waste in the UK - 4.1 million tonnes or 61% - is avoidable and could have been eaten had it been better managed.
"We would love to hear from families who are keen to avoid this wastage and make their food go further with the help of the Zero Waste Kitchen Challenge."

The free cookery workshop takes place on Thursday 8 February 2018 (09:30 - 13:00) at First move Furnishaid, Artillery Square.

Residents who are interested in taking part in the challenge should sign up for the cookery workshop at: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/zero-waste-kitchen-challenge-cookery-workshop-great-yarmouth-tickets-39770171654
