About us: Great Yarmouth Borough Council (the Council), Town Hall, Hall Plain, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 2QF, 01493 856100, is the data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR).

Why we collect your data: We will use your personal data for the purposes of training and development, quality checks, processing repairs to Council properties and supporting complaints about Council services. The processing of information is necessary for the Council to undertake a public task as defined under Article 6(1)(e) of the Act, i.e. the processing is necessary for the Council to perform a task in the public interest or for its official functions. We may also lawfully use your data for the prevention and detection of fraud.

Sharing your data: Your data will be used for specific purpose although your details may be shared between Council departments, Council contractors and other agencies where there is a lawful authority to do so.

Your data will be kept strictly confidential. It will be stored in a secure password-protected database on the Council's computer system.

Retention period and criteria: Your personal data will be kept for a six month period as stated on the Council's Retention Schedule. At the end of the retention period your personal data will be securely destroyed.

In certain circumstances, for example complaint investigation, fraud prevention, etc., we may be required to hold your data for longer than the six month retention period, however we will only use it within the terms of data protection laws and will destroy it as soon as the data is no longer required.

Your rights: You have a number or rights available to you, including the potential right to see copies of all the data held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to request the Council to restrict what it does with your data in certain circumstances, to object to what the Council may do with your data, and to data portability.

Please note that these rights are not absolute and there are circumstances where they do not apply or the Council may override these rights, however, if this is the case you will be informed of this.
