What is the Council responsible for?
The Council is responsible for:
- officially naming new streets
- allocating official property numbers to all new properties
- renumbering existing properties
- renaming properties and streets
- making sure Royal Mail is told about new or amended property addresses, so it can assign postcodes
UPDATE (Tuesday 3 June 2025)
The Council is notifying street naming and numbering applicants that Royal Mail has recently installed a new IT software system. Unfortunately, as a result, they are experiencing delays in responding to applications. This means that applications will take longer for the Council to process (than the usual turn around within 21 working days).
