Collaborative working to complete road and footpath construction at Beacon Park

GREAT Yarmouth Borough Council is working closely in partnership with Norfolk County Council to complete roads and footpaths at Beacon Park.

The two organisations will be coordinating the various works on Excalibur, Lancelot and Gawain Roads, which had been partially constructed to allow various developments by the borough council since 2011. The county council will now be utilising its term contractor, Tarmac, to finish the construction.

The work will start on Monday, February 19, and is expected to be completed by April. Access to all of the businesses will be unaffected though there may be some minor re-routing. Surfacing work will be carried out at night to reduce inconvenience to businesses.

Works will include:

·         Construction of some footpaths that were deliberately left unfinished to allow for connections of services;

·         Replacement of damaged and loose kerbs to roads and footpaths where required;

·         Completion of any repairs that are necessary to the road base course that is already in place;

·         Laying of final wearing course to the roads and footpaths giving a smooth surface acceptable for all users;

·         Any white lining that is required along carriageways and at junctions;

On completion, these three roads and footpaths on both sides will be made up to adoptable standard ready for adoption once the borough council is in a position to progress this. For the time being Malory Road (off Gawain Road) will remain in its present condition until construction on undeveloped sites is progressing.

This work is essential now that development at Beacon Park is well progressed and businesses are becoming established. It is common practice to complete initial road and infrastructure up to "base course" and then return once developments have been well progressed, otherwise the surfaces and kerbs are easily damaged by heavy construction traffic.
