Commonwealth Day 2018

Everyone is invited to attend the raising of the Commonwealth Flag outside of Great Yarmouth Town Hall on Monday, March 12, as part of a national initiative to show commitment to this global family of nations.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is taking part in Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth, which will see local authorities, community groups, charities and others hold flag-raising events and ceremonies, on Commonwealth Day 2018.

The initiative enables communities to become involved and join with others in associating themselves with widespread public expression of commitment to the Commonwealth, appreciation of its values, and the opportunities offered for friendship and co-operation with Commonwealth citizens around the world.

In Great Yarmouth, the ceremony will start at 9.45am and will be led by the Rev Canon Simon Ward, of Great Yarmouth Minster. The flag will be raised at 10am by Cllr Kerry Robinson-Payne, the mayor of the Great Yarmouth borough - the same time as Commonwealth Flags are raised at hundreds of other locations across the world.
