Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves Neighbourhood Plan status

The Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves Neighbourhood Plan was adopted by Great Yarmouth Borough Council on the 22 April 2025 and will proceed to the Broads Authority for adoption on 9 May 2025. The plan now forms part of the development plan for Great Yarmouth Borough Council and Broads Authority (pending adoption).

Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves Neighbourhood Plan Referendum

The Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves Neighbourhood Plan proceeded to referendum on Thursday 27 March 2025. The question which was asked at the referendum was:

Do you want Great Yarmouth Borough Council and the Broads Authority to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves to help them decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

The Neighbourhood Plan received a 'yes' vote at referendum on 27 March 2025 and was adopted at Full Council on 22 April 2025. Full details of the result can be found on the Result of referendum: Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves page.

The independent examiner, Ann Skippers BSc (Hons) MRTPI, was appointed to examine the Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves Neighbourhood Plan. The submitted documents and accompanying evidence can be viewed below. The examiner assessed whether the Neighbourhood Plan met the basic conditions and other matters set out in paragraph 8 of schedule 4B of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended). Having assessed the plan, the examiner confirmed that they were satisfied it met these requirements, subject to modifications.

Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves Regulation 16 consultation

The Borough Council consulted upon the Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves Neighbourhood Plan (2021-2036) under Regulation 16 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 (opens new window) between 24 May 2024 and 05 July 2024.

Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves area designation

The Borough Council consulted upon the proposed designation of a joint neighbourhood area between the parishes of Belton with Browston, Burgh Castle and Fritton with St Olaves under Regulation 6 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 as amended (opens new window). The decision to designate the neighbourhood area was made by full council on 15 December 2022 and by the Broads Authority Planning Committee on 09 December 2022.
