Grants available to support local businesses during lockdown restrictions

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) is available to businesses that include non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses. Grants are available in three different values, depending on the rateable value of the premises: £1,334, £2,000 and £3,000.

To be eligible, businesses must have been trading as normal the day before national lockdown came into effect and be a business ratepayer liable for paying as at November 5. Non-essential retail, cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs that are offering takeaway, click-and-collect or delivery services whilst their premises are closed to customers will also qualify for the grant.

Support for the four-week period will be paid as swiftly as possible once the business has completed the simple online application form and their eligibility has been confirmed. A separate grant scheme is being developed to support businesses which, while not forced to close, have been severely impacted by the national restrictions.

Cllr Carl Smith, leader of the council, said "The council is working closely with New Anglia LEP, other local councils and business groups to ensure our local businesses get the support that is available. During the pandemic, the council has so far handed out more than £33m in grants to local businesses, which has been a lifeline for many businesses, in addition to offering advice, signposting and other support.
