Community champions

Introduction

Could you be a community champion? Make a difference in your community.

We are on a search right across the borough to find helpful people to become community champions - a new important volunteer role supporting healthy communities to thrive.

If you are aged over 18, live or work in the borough and can help to share the latest health and wellbeing information with your local community, via friends, family and neighbours, then you can become a community champion.

As well as helping to ensure important advice reaches as many people as possible, you will also become a key voice in your local community. We want to know what is important to you and your community. We want to know what's working well in your area, what people think we can do better and what questions people are asking.

What's involved?

As a community champion, you will be invited to participate in regular 'community check-ins' or virtual community information-sharing sessions, where you will have the chance to speak with the communities team and those leading the COVID-19 response locally.

You will get information and materials to share - this could be through conversations, social media or WhatsApp groups. In addition to helping to keep people safe, you will also have the chance to ask questions and share your ideas and feedback for supporting healthy communities.

You don't need to belong to any groups or clubs to become a community champion. If you are in touch with friends, family and people in your community or workplace, and you're happy to volunteer some time, then please get in touch.

How do I become a community champion?

Please read and agree the Community Champions: Code of Conduct (PDF) [202KB]  before signing up. If you would like to know more about community champions or need help applying, please email gycc@great-yarmouth.gov.uk or call the Great Yarmouth Community Helpline on 0808 196 2236.
