Free access to half term fun at Great Yarmouth museums and galleries

An exciting programme of free access to a number of museums and galleries, as well as a series of activities and events, is available in Great Yarmouth during the October half term week starting this Saturday (October 23).

With support from the Welcome Back Fund sponsored by ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), Norfolk Museums Service is offering free entry to their three museums in Great Yarmouth. Time and Tide, Elizabethan House museum and the Tolhouse Gaol museums will all be open and free to enjoy from Saturday 23 until Sunday 31 October. 

In addition, at Time and Tide museum on Monday 25 October the annual 'Herring Day' event celebrates the fishing heritage of Great Yarmouth. Pre-booking for this event day is recommended.

Time and Tide's new exhibition 'The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists' has also just opened and is complemented by a new family fun trail 'Storytime through the Ages' around the museum.

Elizabethan House hosts its 'Mystic Medicine' event day on Thursday 28 October while the Tolhouse Gaol has a special 'Halloween at the Tolhouse' event presented by the Freshly Greated team on Sunday 31 October.

Arts development charity Out There Arts is hosting a series of activities and providing chances to experience exciting cultural offers and free to access events. These events include lantern making, prop making, family friendly crafts and participatory circus workshops, and are being delivered over October Half term at the Drill House and Venetian Waterways.

Other activities include:

St Georges Theatre will open its doors on Sunday 24 October, 2-5pm, for a free heritage tour of the theatre. Listen to the audio on your phone or follow the trail around this 300-year-old building (no booking necessary).

On Tuesday 26 October, 6pm, there is a sing-a-long with the blockbuster film, The Greatest Showman, and on Wednesday 27 October, 10am-4pm, a spooky spectacular Halloween drama workshop (booking essential for both events via their website). On Saturday 30 October, 11.30am-1.30pm, have your face painted at the cafe in a weird and wonderful way for the spooky season (no booking necessary).

The Yare Gallery will be offering a free drop-in art activity from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 October, 11am-4pm. It will coincide with the 'John Kiki - The Infanta' paintings exhibition and is open to all ages.
