Community rallies for pre-season litter pick

Staff and volunteers from several local community groups and businesses came together for a pre-season litter pick at Breydon Water.

Staff and volunteers from several local community groups and businesses came together for a pre-season litter pick at Breydon Water.

Organised by The Broads Authority, the event saw over thirty members of staff and volunteers from The Broads Authority, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, the Bure Valley Conservation Group, RSPB Love Nature, and the Sea Life Centre team up to tackle the area before the tourism season begins.

On Wednesday 9, March, the teams spent four hours litter picking on the Northern/Southern shore of Breydon Water and came across some interesting finds.

Their top discoveries included a singular pristine winter welly boot, one lonely Nike Air trainer, a pre-loved teddy bear, many construction helmets and even a mooring reserved sign.

Cllr Paul Wells, chairman of the environment committee, said: "Once again our community has gathered together to tidy up an area that suffers with litter, which we hope will boost community pride and influence people to get involved with future similar events."

Broads Authority Ranger Keith Griffin said of the litter pick: "It was great to see so many people and organisations in attendance.

"We would like to make this a bigger event in the future, so if any companies or members of the public would like to get involved, please get in touch with the Broads Authority."

"If people spot litter when out walking, please help by picking it up and putting it in the nearest bin."
