Gorleston tennis courts to serve up improved experience

A potential significant investment will see Gorleston's cliff top tennis courts refurbished.

A tennis racket and tennis ball placed on the ground of a tennis court.

The investment is being made by the Government and the Lawn Tennis Association alongside Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

The work will cover the resurface and refurbishment of all six courts, new fencing, and the installation of a 'smart gate', allowing users to reserve their slots online before turning up to play with an online booking system.

The changes are aimed at ensuring maximise court usage, increase of participation and support the sustainable operation and maintenance of courts to a high standard.

The funding is part of the UK Government and LTA's joint investment of more than £30m to refurbish public tennis courts across Britain and support a new generation of players to get into the sport.

Cllr Emma Flaxman-Taylor, chair of the Housing and Neighbourhood committee, said: "This much needed investment will help massively improve the tennis facilities located on the Cliffs and will hopefully encourage more residents and visitors to become more active, and promote healthier communities across the borough.

"We're working with LTA to finalise the funding agreement and discuss operational arrangements to ensure the courts are accessible and affordable for the whole community and can be maintained to a high standard."

Works are expected to begin later this year and be complete and for the courts to reopen by April 2023.
