Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever

On July 13th 2019, the Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever comes to Pier Gardens, Gorleston on Sea. It is one of this year's 33 events from Sweden to New Zealand alongside Paris, Berlin, Sydney, Brisbane and Boston!

Led by choreographer and aerialist Sue King and dancers from the Pavilion Theatre, its a flash mob style dance event recreating the music video for Kate Bush's 1978 song Wuthering Heights an is filmed and uploaded on YouTube. It's just for fun but organisers often use it to benefit a charity. It will be followed by a community picnic. Wear Red and be prepared to enjoy yourself! You need no dance skills, its open to all age ranges, genders, physical abilities with only 200 places including some seated and wheelchair spaces. The event is to raise funds for the Pavilion Theatre Restoration fund. There is an online video to practice to, with rehearsals before the dance is filmed.

Organiser, Melanie Ruse said "In a way, I was inspired by the Gorleston Community Beach Clean. I saw the Wuthering Heights films on Facebook last year and I was so blown away, I thought I'd want to do that. Then I thought, if I can get 130 to Gorleston Beach to pick up rubbish, surely 200 people would love to come and dance! The Pavilion Theatre is undergoing restoration so it was a very short thought process to add fundraising for the Theatre. Great Yarmouth Borough Council Events have been very positive about it, there's a huge amount of paperwork as we will have to close Pier Gardens for a couple of hours. Everyone can join us for a picnic after. I have the event organisation of the Gorleston Beach Clean Stewards behind me which is a big help and we can promote our environmental causes too."

The biggest coup for Gorleston is that members of the KT Bush Band have offered to join in and do a couple of acoustic numbers. Brian Bath (guitar) and Vic King (drums) were the original band that Kate Bush joined age 18. They played on her first album and Brian still has a guitar she bought him. They reformed a couple of years ago and tour under this original band name Performing Kate's songs. The Gorleston event is the only one worldwide that will have original band members taking part.

Melanie explained how it came about. "I was contacted by the KT Bush Band to say they had a gig in Norwich and could I post it on the Facebook page. Having listened to a clip of them, I was so impressed I shared it everywhere. They kindly invited me and my husband to see them. They knew all about the Most Wuthering Heights Days and the rest is history. We talked about some of the members of the band and crew popping up for the day and Sally-Anne Hurst, the 'Kate', has now confirmed on the bands Facebook page that she and Brian are intending to perform a couple of numbers. Guess what one of them will be! Brian has so many fascinating stories about Kate, I'm sure he will be happy to share some with us"

Inspired by a 2013 event by performance group Shambush! in Brighton, which attempted to set an unofficial world record for the most people dressed as Kate Bush with hundreds attending. It has taken off worldwide, facilitated by Samantha Wareing in Berlin, creator of 'The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever' name in 2016.
