Council invites residents to communicate with future locals via Marina Centre time capsule
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is inviting members of the community to share their ideas on what they think should be included in a time capsule to be buried under the performance area in the new Marina Centre.
Whether it's mementos, photographs, written memories or personal keepsakes, residents are encouraged to get their suggestions in now. The favourite suggestions, which will be chosen by the Mayor of Great Yarmouth, will be buried with other items relevant to 2022. These will include details of the serving Mayor and newspaper clippings.
The burial is planned for the end of February and the capsule will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Those whose suggestions are chosen will be invited to the burial ceremony where the laying of an inscribed slate will take place, celebrating another milestone in the Marina Centre redevelopment.
Cllr Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: "This time capsule is another great opportunity for residents and visitors to be part of the redevelopment of our new advanced Marina Centre, and give future locals an insight into what else was going on in the borough when this revitalisation was happening."
Entry ideas should be emailed to: marketing@great-yarmouth.gov.uk before the closing date of December 15, 2021.
Information and a virtual tour of the new Marina Centre is available online.
