Drains and drainage

Blocked drains can cause a number of problems. You can find out who is responsible for fixing the problem using OFWAT's handy guide (opens new window).

Private drains are the responsibility of the individual home owner. You can prevent blockages by ensuring all outside gullies and gratings are clear of debris such as leaves and being careful what you put down your drains. Avoid fats, oils and grease which can solidify and items such as nappies, cotton buds and non-flushable wipes.

Anglian Water (opens new window) maintains public sewers in the Borough.

Norfolk County Council (opens new window) maintains road and street surface water gullies and drains.

A good way to check whether the problem is related to just your drain is to ask your neighbour if they are experiencing similar problems.
