Great Yarmouth Borough Council urges people to register properties for Heritage Open Days festival

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is urging businesses and organisations to register properties for inclusion in this year's Heritage Open Days (HODs) festival.

People urged to register for Heritage Open Days

HODs is an annual national event that celebrates England's culture and history. During the festival, visitors get free access to buildings that might usually be closed to the public, it also includes a range of other activities.

HODs 2025 takes place from Friday, September 12, until Sunday, September 21, and will see a wide range of properties opened up across the country. The optional theme for 2025 is Architecture.

The festival is co-ordinated by the National Trust, with support from players of the People's Postcode Lottery. Locally, events and openings are co-ordinated by Great Yarmouth Borough Council's marketing and events team, which supports organisations and volunteers who share a passion for places, history and culture.

All HODs events are free, including access to many sites that usually charge for admission.

Registering early for an event helps organisations and owners with promotion and also ensures location details are publicised in the Norfolk and Great Yarmouth HODs guides.

Ruth Cockrill, Great Yarmouth Borough Council's marketing and events officer, said: ''The HODs festival is always extremely popular across our borough. We know people have a real appetite to find out more about the fascinating history of buildings and places where they live.

''We are blessed with an incredibly rich history here in Great Yarmouth and urge companies and organisations to register as soon as possible so the public can find out more about the wide range of places opening their doors for the festival.''

Event registration is now open and venues looking to get involved with HODs are asked to email ruth.cockrill@great-yarmouth.gov.uk or register directly with HODs at https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/get-involved/how-to-get-involved.html.
