How long can I hire a beach wheelchair for?

Members of the public can hire a beach wheelchair for a whole day (8am - 8pm).

Can I hire a beach wheelchair today?

If a beach wheelchair is free, then yes you can book it. Please note, a wheelchair bookings are managed during office hours, Monday to Friday 9am-4.30pm (excluding Bank Holidays).

How do I access the beach wheelchairs?

Once you have booked you will receive a confirmation email. A combination code will be emailed to you the day before or a few days before the day of your hire.

Beach wheelchair hire is free.

Can we take the beach wheelchair to a different beach?

No, the wheelchairs must stay at Gorleston or Great Yarmouth Beaches depending where you have hired the wheelchair from.

Can the beach wheelchair go in the sea or water?

No! The wheelchair frame is metal and will go rusty if placed in water so please do not take the wheelchair into any kind of water. The only exception is if the wheelchair needs cleaning - in Gorleston, this can be done under the tap in Pier Gardens (where the Bandstand is).

Can the wheelchair be used in hot weather?

Yes - be aware the frame can become hot when left outdoors in direct sunlight. When someone is using the wheelchair, make sure sun cream is applied and perhaps use an umbrella for shade.
