Gambling Policy
4. Casinos
At its meeting on 14 December 2023, Council agreed with the intention of the Secretary of State to reallocate the unused large casino licence, which had previously been awarded to Great Yarmouth. No current plans were in place to develop a casino of this nature in Great Yarmouth and it does not form part of the borough plan.
Converted casino premises licences
Casino operators with licences granted under the Gaming Act 1968, were eligible to be granted a casino premises licence under 'grandfathering arrangements'. Great Yarmouth has three such casinos that have converted casino premises licences.
Different principles apply to such casinos and these are listed in The Gambling Act 2005 (Commencement no 6 and Transitional Provisions) Order 2006.
Special provisions apply to enable these operators to relocate to premises by way of variation to a converted casino premises licence providing those premises are wholly or partly situated in the area.
