Great Yarmouth Borough Council issues further business grants as the nations restrictions continue to ease

As further restrictions ease as part of Step 3 on the Government's roadmap out of lockdown, Great Yarmouth Borough Council is issuing further funds to support local businesses.

ARG Phase 5

This phase (phase 5) of the Additional Restrictions Grant scheme (ARG) is designed to support businesses who were unable to access the Restart Grant or Additional Restrictions Grant Phase 4.

To apply, businesses must complete the online ARG Phase 5 application form. Please note applications close at midnight on Monday 31 May 2021, however funding for this phase is strictly limited.

One-off payments are available under this scheme in two categories:

  • Grants of £1400 are available to business-rated businesses that were not eligible for the Restart Grant or the ARG phase 4
  • Grants of £900 are available to non-business-rated businesses and Bed & Breakfasts/guesthouses that were not eligible for the Restart Grant or the ARG phase 4

Businesses must be able to provide evidence showing at least a 25% loss of income during January - March 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, due to the lockdown and restrictions. This can be from either being authorised to close through the national lockdown period or being able to stay open but being financially impacted due to the loss of trade. Businesses will need to have been actively trading since 1 January 2020.

This grant excludes national chains, franchises, takeaways, market traders, personal care, hospitality, on course bookmakers, financial services businesses, homeworkers and self-employed. Only one award allowed per limited company, applicant or payee with multiple businesses.

Cllr Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: "As businesses are allowed to open up further due to the easing of restrictions, it's important that we continue to support our local businesses that have been affected by the national lockdown restrictions.

"Information and support about the programme, eligibility criteria and further business advice is available on our website."
