Update on Christmas In The Parks

Unfortunately due to predicted high winds, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this weekend's Christmas in The Parks events in Priory Gardens, Gorleston - but don't worry, Christmas isn't cancelled! The current forecast suggests winds will lessen to allow the Gorleston Christmas lights switch on and fireworks display on Sunday to take place as planned, from 5pm on Gorleston High Street.

Events in Great Yarmouth, including the markets in St George's Park and the Great Yarmouth Minister will still go ahead as these have better protection against the weather. Where possible we are offering stallholders from Priory Gardens the chance to transfer to an indoor location at the Priory Centre in Great Yarmouth.

Attractions still taking place include entertainment in Great Yarmouth Market Place, with a Tunnel of Light for festive selfies and Santa's Post Office so children can post their letters to the man himself.

On Friday, November 26 the Great Yarmouth Christmas lights switch on event will start from 6pm with the honours performed by the Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Cllr Adrian Thompson, and Greatest Hits Radio DJ Rob Chandler, followed by a rooftop firework spectacular.

Great Yarmouth Minster will host its annual Christmas Fayre from Friday, November 26 to Sunday, November 28, with a wide range of stall selling crafts, gifts, and festive treats.

The fayre will be opened by the Mayor at 10am on Friday, November 26, along with carols from St Nicholas Priory School pupils.

Unfortunately the layout of Priory Gardens means for the planned market most stallholders would have been located in individual gazebos. Following a safety assessment today and in light of forecast weather, we have decided to cancel the event there. The layout at St George's Park allows us to use larger marquee and wooden chalets, which are able to safely withstand stronger winds.

Great Yarmouth Christmas Market at St George's Park will be open Friday 26 November, 10am to 8pm; Saturday 27 November 10am to 5pm; Sunday 28 November 10am to 4pm; and Friday 3 - Sunday 5 December, 10am to 4pm.

Free weekend parking will be available from Saturday, November 27 for six weeks in Brewery Plain, Fullers Hill, George Street, King Street, Market Place and Stonecutter's Quay car parks.

Christmas in the Parks in Gorleston is sponsored by the Greater Yarmouth Tourism & Business Improvement Area BID. Entertainment across the events is supported by the Welcome Back Fund.
