Privacy notice: My Account

Who we are

Great Yarmouth Borough Council (the Council), Town Hall, Hall Plain Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 2QF, 01493 856100, is the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Why we are collecting your data

We will use your personal information for the purpose of setting up your My Account in order for you to be able to store your details for faster interactions with our forms and other services, and for you to review your online transaction history with the Council.

In order for the Council to provide this service to you, it requires you to give your consent for us to hold your personal information under Article 6(1)(a) of the Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR).

What information we collect about you

When you register for a My Account, we require the following details:

  • Title
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address

As part of the service you may also wish to provide us with additional personal information such as:

  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Reference number

How we will use this information about you

We will use this information to:

  • Generate your unique identified My Account

How we store your information and for how long

Information will be stored in the Council's secure, password-protected computer systems. The account history displayed in your My Account will be limited to the last 7 years. At the closure of your My Account the 7 year history along with the personal information you provided to setup your My Account will be securely deleted. We will only use your data within the terms of data protection laws, will delete your data securely and only keep it for as long as necessary. We will review dates for keeping personal data in the future and if necessary update this privacy notice.

When and why we share your information

Your data will be used for the specific purposes outlined, although your details will be shared between Council departments and other agencies where there is lawful authority to do so.

Your rights

You have a number of rights available to you, including the right to see copies of all the data held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to request the Council to restrict what is does with your data in certain circumstances, to object to what the Council may do with your data, and to data portability.

Please note that these rights are not absolute and there are circumstances where they do not apply or the Council may override these rights, however, if this is the case you will be informed of this.
