Hemsby and coastal erosion - frequently asked questions

What compensation or financial assistance is available to affected owner-occupiers, leaseholders or tenants? What access do residents have to Government schemes such as the Coastal Erosion Assistance Grant or other discretionary or hardship funds?

There is currently no legal provision for owners, leaseholders or tenants to receive compensation if a property in the UK is lost to coastal erosion. However, the Council has secured a limited amount of Government funding to provide a small financial incentive associated with the planning right of the property. The Council is currently working on these proposals for further discussion with affected property owners. This is via the use of planning rights associated with Policy E2 of the Local Plan.
